Jerry is second in a series of banjo players that I've begun. Pete Seegar comes next, then an art deco Mummer from the Philadelphia New Years parade. I wrote a screen-play about mummers once. I acceded to sculpt Jerry for my daughter, who is a yuppie-era dead-head. I do not ordinarily sculpt pop artists etcetera, and so made him part of the banjo series...the first being Irish Billy Briggs, who was the hero of my mummers movie script, and the main informant about Irish-American relations with the I.R.A., about which the movie turned. Billy died before I could do anything with it, and his bar in Trenton, Tir N Nog was sold to another owner. Billy was not a mummer, but a very close friend of the I.R.A. and major American support for its political decisions. I do not know much about Jerry Garcia, however, except respect him quite a bit for being a banjo player. The price is ninety bucks because he takes almost 4 hours to assemble after casting, and the hands always need extra work. I am still learning as a sculptor how to do these things. This one is number 2 from the mold. He is not signed, as I do not generally sign my works, but will sign and number them in some future day when I sell to retail stores and they must double my price. At that time I will also add a certificate of authenticity!!
